What we do

From the day you open to the last tax letter, we handle all of it.

Forming the business, keeping the books, reading the numbers, planning and filing the taxes — one local team for the whole life of your business, not a different vendor for each piece. Start wherever you are today.

You should know your own numbers

Part of what we do is teach you the finance side of your own business. Nobody knows that business inside and out the way you do, and the numbers belong to you — not to us, and not to a report you file away unread.

You would not look at your own bank account and have no idea where the money went. We believe the same should be true of your business. When you can read your own financial operations, you change direction early — while the problem is still small and still fixable.

Where is your business today?

Pick the one that sounds like you. Each opens a short plain-language read on what usually matters in that situation.

I'm starting out

Three decisions come before any paperwork: the structure, California's LLC fee, and whether you keep a W-2 job.

My books are a mess

Most "messes" are a handful of the same problems. Here is what they usually are, and the two ways to fix them.

I want to pay less tax

The savings come from decisions made during the year. Six levers, none of which asks you to buy anything.

I got a letter

Most letters are a question, not a verdict. What they usually mean, and why the date on it matters most.

Worth knowing

Three things we explain to almost every owner we meet.

The December purchase that leaves you poorer

A purchase you did not already need gives back a fraction of its price at tax time and takes all of it in cash. You end the year with less in your pocket than if you had bought nothing.

The levers that lower a tax bill without spending are decided in the fall — and there are six of them.

What a monthly close should hand you

Not a PDF you file away. A plain-language page that says what came in, what went out, what you owe the agencies next, and the one thing that changed since last month.

If your close does not tell you those four things, you are paying for bookkeeping and getting data entry.

S-Corp: when it helps, when it doesn’t

Once net profit has grown into it, payroll tax applies only to a reasonable salary and the rest passes through. That is real money every year.

It cuts the other way when profit is still small, when you hold a W-2 job, or when the business owns property. If the numbers say don’t switch, we’ll tell you.

Who we serve

Built for the businesses on the corner, not the ones on the exchange.

Each of these runs on cash, tips, inventory or crews — and each has its own way of being misread on a tax return. We know where to look.

Restaurants
Tips, sales tax, food cost and labor — seen monthly, not in April.
Warehouse businesses
Inventory, freight and crews — costed so the margin you see is real.
The trades
Job costing, crews, equipment and the deductions you already earned.
Clothing & specialty shops
Inventory that behaves on the balance sheet, sales tax that ties out.
Home-based businesses
The workspace, the phone, the miles — documented so they count.
How we work

Three steps, and the third one never ends.

1
Conversation

A complimentary conversation. Tell us what is keeping you up at night. By the end you will have a clear picture of where your business stands and what we would do about it.

2
Analysis

We read your books, your returns and your filings side by side, show you with real numbers where the money is going, and put a written plan in front of you that you can follow without a translator.

3
Year-round partnership

A plain-language summary with every close, a quarterly meeting over your own statements, and someone who watches the dates so you don’t have to. Planning does not stop at April 15.

Every engagement starts with a complimentary conversation, not a form. We will tell you plainly what we would do about it — and whether we are the right firm to do it.
